Engine woes - 2007/06/08 13:59 Hello I am in bristol and have a problem with a 1972 1600 TP beetle. Basically I have just installed an engine into it that has been standing in a car for a few years. The engine is an alternator converted type and as such i have done the wiring mods required (removed regulator etc). The engine runs but seems to only be getting fuel to, and running on, number 1 and 2 cylinders. There is good spark all round and I have cleaned the carb out. The plug from cylinder 1 is sooty black and the one from 4 is clean and doesnt smell of fuel at all. 3 and 4 remain stone cold even after running.

Any ideas? All i can think of is stuck inlet valves? Would this be expensive to fix? Is it a job you can do?

Many thanks

Alex
